It’s no question the Kansas City area has been catapulted to the spotlight over the last several years, and it’s only shining brighter in 2025. This year is jampacked with everything from highly anticipated openings and expansions to beloved annual events and big anniversary celebrations. Whether you’re local or vacationing in KC, check out these can’t miss things to do as you make your plans for the year.
Bonner Springs
1) The creativity will be flowing on Saturday, May 3rd in downtown Bonner Springs! The annual Makers’ Fair draws thousands and features blocks of artists and vendors specializing in handmade crafts and specialty goods. Stroll the quaint downtown and try food trucks, shop the farmers market and more.
2) Country Stampede is back June 26th-28th at Azura Amphitheater! The three day music festival will feature a lineup you won’t want to miss, including headliners Luke Bryan, Miranda Lamber and Cole Swindell.

3) Get ready for an adrenaline-packed experience at the Abdallah Shriners 2025 Rodeo-Demo Derby on June 12th – 14th! With thrilling rodeo action, jaw-dropping demolition derby crashes, and a fun-filled atmosphere for the whole family, this event is must-see.
4) The Johnson County Fair coming July 27th- August 2nd is the perfect summer event for families looking for a fun, old-fashioned fair experience. From thrilling carnival rides and games to live entertainment and delicious fair food, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

6) Wastin’ away…In KCK? Margaritaville Hotel Kansas City officially opens June 1st! With 200+ rooms inspired by seaside escapes, a resort-style pool, family-friendly amenities, and signature Margaritaville restaurants, it’s the ultimate destination for a tropical getaway in the Midwest.
Kansas City, MO:
7) Often thought of as the barbecue capital of the world, Kansas City will embrace its history with the opening of the world's first Museum of BBQ this spring. The immersive museum is part photo opp and part educational experience, giving visitors an in-depth look at the history and culture surrounding barbecue.
8) Since its launch in 2016, more than 14 million riders have traveled the 2.2-mile starter route on the KC Streetcar, a free mode of public transit connecting Downtown KC with other entertainment districts. In 2025, a 3.5-mile extension to the Country Club Plaza is set to open, providing visitors with access to even more top neighborhoods.
Leavenworth
9) Enjoy two days of free live music at Camp Leavenworth, September 26th – 27th! Enjoy kids’ activities, from arts and crafts tables and chalk art contests to face-painting stations and bouncy houses, plus a complimentary Friday night fireworks spectacular. Bring a little cash for the on-site makers’ market featuring local handicrafts, as well as the bevy of food trucks on hand.
10) The Leavenworth County Veterans Day Parade on November 11th is the oldest observation of the holiday in the nation, marking its 106th edition in 2025. What began as “The Welcome Home Celebration” that followed the conclusion of World War I has grown to an annual promenade of 250 marching bands, equestrian groups, service organizations and other entries. It’s a spectacle that draws nearly 15,000 people to historic downtown Leavenworth each year.
Merriam
11) Mark your calendar for Oct. 23, 2025, and get ready for a day filled with the love and spirit of Merriam. Merriam's 75th birthday party will feature face painting, a balloon artist, adult drinks, ice cream, and a birthday cake. Each of Merriam’s city departments will also have a fun surprise planned at the party – so come ready to drink, eat, and be merry!
12) Hearts Across Merriam is a special extension of the I Heart Merriam campaign. Local artist Dierk Van Keppel with Rock Cottage Glassworks has crafted 75 beautiful, custom-blown glass hearts, each unique and full of character. From January through October, we’ll hide these hearts in various public spaces encouraging residents and visitors to explore the city’s parks, landmarks, and trails. Each month, a new batch of hearts will be waiting to be found. If you stumble upon one of these treasures, take a moment to snap a photo and share it on Facebook or Instagram, tag @exploremerriam and use the hashtag #HeartsAcrossMerriam. Then, you’re welcome to take the heart with you as a keepsake.
Olathe
13) Fourth Fridays in Olathe are back from May to August! Celebrate summer evenings with delicious food from local trucks, unique finds from more than 40 vendors, and fun family activities. Don’t miss the car show featuring local car clubs showcasing and enjoy live music from local and regional bands. It’s the ultimate way to connect with the community and make your summer nights unforgettable.
14) Bring your furry best friend and join us for a tail-wagging good time at KC Wine Co.! From June 26 - 29, leashed and friendly dogs are welcome to accompany you as you enjoy a weekend of fun with trivia, live music, drinks and snacks. This event is sure to be a paws-itively great time for you and your four-legged companion!
Overland Park
15) Are you ready to embrace the luck of the Irish? If so, head to Downtown Overland Park for the St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 8th! This family-friendly event kicks off with a Master of Ceremonies featuring marching bands, drill teams, Irish dancers and performers. Make sure the kids bring a small bag to collect parade candy. After the parade, head to one of the several pubs in Downtown OP for a pint (or two)!
16) Can you figure out whodunit? Clue, the comedy smash hit adapted from one of the most popular board games in America, is coming to The New Theatre & Restaurant this year!
